A hardy ornamental tree prized for its striking foliage. New leaves emerge green in spring, then turn a deep maroon to purple as the season progresses, holding color well through summer. Clusters of white flowers bloom in spring, followed by small red berries that ripen to dark purple, attracting birds. Excellent as a specimen or for naturalizing.
